As the organizor of 1998 Soccer World Cup, Paris needed a world class
stadium in addition to 45000 seats Parc
des Princes near Bois de Boulogne.
The Stade de France (right), looking like a flying saucer, can
accomodate 80 000 people and is the venue for all kinds of sports and cultural
events.
The Stade de France was inaugurated on January 28th 1988 with a
France/Spain soccer game.
It was the venue of France 98 World Soccer Cup final on July 12th 1998
(France wins 3/0 over Brazil) and 2007 Rugby World Cup final on October 20th
2007 (South Africa wins 15/6 over England).
The Stade de France is located a few kilometers north of Paris in
Saint-Denis. Saint-Denis is known for its beautiful 12th century cathedral, the
burial place of the kings of France.

There are no good hotels near Stade de France. If you go to Stade de
France, stay near Gare du Nord in Paris. The RER B connects Gare du Nord to
Stade de France in a few minutes.
